Who is Joy?

Joy Pitcairn is a former educator who writes stories for children and adults. 

Born and raised in South Florida, Joy possesses an unnatural admiration of alligators and a strong affection for flip-flops, Key Lime Pie, and the ocean. She loves learning languages, hearing people’s stories, punny picture books, and twisty mysteries.

A long time ago, Joy graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Elementary Education. After a roundabout journey through Bolivia and South Korea, she is currently based in Chicago, Illinois (which is much too cold!). Joy is a member of the SCBWI and a former member of 12×12 and Storyteller Academy.

When she’s not working her day job or writing, you might catch Joy researching her latest curiosity (e.g., What makes a city walkable? Does sloth fur hold the cure for cancer?), drawing, or playing board games with her family.
