Summer’s here and it’s time for some fun in the sun! Before you hit the beach (or the lake…or the pool…), let’s check out some cool experiments you can do when it’s hot to find out if your sunscreen or sunglasses are doing their job!
There’s a science shop within walking distance of our house, and when we spotted these UV-sensitive color-changing beads, my mind started whirring. Sure, they’d make a cool bracelet, but what kinds of experiments could we do with them?
Before you take a look at this link full of great ideas to try, come up with some of your own experiments. Follow the scientific method to see where it takes you!
Here are some questions to get you started:
- What questions do you have about UV rays and the materials that block them?
- What do you hypothesize?
- What kind of experiment could you do to test your hypothesis?
- What materials do you need to conduct your experiment?
- What results are you seeing? Do your results support your original hypothesis? If not, ask a new question, make a new hypothesis, and test your hypothesis all over again!
When you’re done, I’d love to know what you discover! Don’t forget to come back to share.
(And stay tuned for some summertime reads in our next post!)
Your turn! What experiments did you perform? Tell me about them!
P.S. Celebrate life!
